April 27 Guests
SPRING WARREN
Spring Warren’s first book, Turpentine: A Novel, was published by Grove/Atlantic in 2007, and her second book, Quarter-Acre Farm: How I Kept the Patio, Lost the Lawn, and Fed My Family for a Year, will come out with Seal Press this Spring. She will be reading from Quarter-Acre Farm on Friday, April 29 at the Avid Reader in Davis, then again on Sunday at the Avid Reader in Sacramento, alongside the illustrator of Quarter-Acre Farm, Jesse Pruet, who will be making prints at the event.
AGGIE TV LIP DUB CREW
Typically filmed on college campuses, Lipdub videos have gained viral status on YouTube; a select few have even received millions of views. Though similar to music videos, Lipdub videos are filmed instead in one long take. AggieTV’s UC Davis Lipdub will showcase the unique aspects of Davis and the University; from Unitrans double decker buses, the CoHo, Aggie Pack and Gunrock, and maybe even a few cows or two! The songs featured will be Queen’s “Bicycle Race” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
CARA PATTON
Cara joined the Peregrine School with her BA and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and is currently working toward a MA in Education at UC Davis. She has had a diverse experience working with children. As an undergraduate, she studied sociology with an emphasis in social services, and African-American studies with an emphasis in education inequity. It was through her coursework that she became interested in education. She sees education as a powerful institution to bridge social inequity. Cara will begin her Teaching Inquiry project (a part of her MA program) this fall. She plans to study how poetry can build community within a classroom space and how students’ participation may increase through this medium.
